NIKON P-TACTICAL SCOPES
Nikon’s P-TACTICAL scopes provide the features you need to maximize your hunting experience — regardless of the platform you mount it on. Fully multicoated optical systems housed in rugged, one-inch, aircraft-grade aluminum main tubes brighten even the most dismal environments and unforgiving conditions. The versatile 3x zoom ratio (on variable models) provides the field of view at the low end and the detail at the high end to satisfy most shooting demands. P-TACTICAL’s hash-marked MK1-MOA or MK1-MRAD reticles are matched to ergonomic turrets with directional indicators to make every come-up-or down — both simple and intuitive. Dedicated caliber models — including rimfire — match the reticle to your preferred caliber. When used in conjunction with Nikon’s free Spot On Ballistic Technology, all reticles offer exact holdover points or elevation adjustment for any long-range engagement.

Also, when the package was delivered, there was only one scope in it. I waited a couple days expecting another package but when that didn’t happen, I contacted the seller. The seller was very responsive and immediately admitted their error. They apologized, let me know the reason for the error, and sent the second scope out 2-day-air without me even asking for it. What a great seller. A fantastic scope and a great seller. What more can a guy ask for? I hope this helps. :)
You hear Nikon camera owners rave about image clarity, and vibrant colors. And they're right. But it's not night and day with Canon, just slightly sharper contrasts, mostly. Canon has better depth of field. But I digress.
This won't be much longer because I've only just unboxed the scope and looked across the street (You know, COVID and all - Say, I wonder how many reviews are going to mention the Rona from this time period? Is the Rona Review a meme now?)
ANYWAY, the glass is superb. To the point where looking at reflective or white objects in direct sunlight is almost painful. You can FEEL the light reflecting off your eye, there is so much transfer. Which is crazy, because the objective end is so small. It's a battle optic, after all.
The magnification loses NOTHING to light, edge blur or aberration. The 1.5 minimum magnification is NOT hard to look through with both eyes open, does not feel like it fatigues the off eye, and the reticle remains clear throughout the length of travel.
Weight is super light because of the body, but not at all weak or flimsy feeling. Solid, turrets are hard, audible and tactile clicks, and the mag wheel is firm, but not too resistant. I'm going to put a throw handle on it for sure.
Finally, the warranty. I looked it up, and Nikon will stand by any written warranty your rifle scope came with, despite the company ceasing rifle scope production.
So. Bottom line, first feel is this thing is amazing, for almost half the price of it's closest competition. I have yet to shoot it, so this whole review could go in the bin. But I stand by the first impression. Clearest glass I've ever looked through. And I'm not new to optics by any means.
I wanted the MIL-Rad model because who knows what cartridge the MOA version is set for, but its unlikely to be 45/70. Super easy to sight in. Started at 35 yards then pushed out to 100 yds and it was on in only a few shots.
The 40 mm optical is great in low light, which was a must for the early morning and late afternoon visibility.
Do not overlook the Nikon "Spot ON" APP. It allows you to input the scope model, caliber and zero distance and it will give you a ballistics chart with bullet drop at distance relative to your zero range in both inches and MILs. I printed the chart for the ranges I was comfortable shooting the 45/70 and laminated it. I carried on the top of my bino case for instant reference after ranging the target.
Cons;
Eye relief could be a little longer, but still usable. This took the most time to get comfortable with.
Hammer clears the scope but not by much. Need a hammer spur. (Lever gun issue only)
To the guy who gave it one star because the BDC is small... it’s a second focal plane optic. You have to fully zoom in for the BDC to work and the BDC markings are significantly larger when you zoom in. You either didn’t read about operating the scope or you should have paid more money for a first focal plane BDC that is the same size regardless of Magnification.
Nikon makes some of the finest optics in the business at very reasonable prices. This scope is no exception. Crystal clear glass, great light collection, 1/4 MOA adjustments and they’ve never lost zero on me even getting banged around. This it an exceptionally good optic for an AR built for accuracy. Ring the gong at 600 yards with absolute ease and enjoy yourself. Just don’t expect it to be something it’s CLEARLY not from its description.
