About this item

  • When every ounce in your pack out counts, at 2.5 lbs, the Summit Carbon II keeps you moving without sacrificing stability. Make light work of your next adventure, glassing with the Summit Carbon II in backcountry environments.
  • Carbon fiber leg construction keeps it light and strong, while the four leg sections provide the ultimate in packability, letting the Summit Carbon II collapse to a smaller size, yet still go tall enough to get you the height you need.
  • To cut down on weight even more, Summit Carbon II comes with a detachable center column to go taller when you need it and stow away for lower viewing and packability when you don’t.
  • In-the-field adjustments are smooth and precise, thanks to a 2-way Pan Head, and you can switch out your long-range tools with ease, thanks to the Arca-Swiss compatible quick-release system.
  • Whether you’re working grasslands, forests, or mountains, the Summit Carbon is solid on any surface, with rubber feet for a non-slip grip and three-angle leg pivot locks. This tripod has a 22lb max load and a detachable counterweight hook.

I was excited to use this as it was lighter and had better features than both the outdoorsman brand and older heavier vortex that my brothers used hunting. After my first glassing setup the one leg became hard to collapse and then wouldn’t retract all the way. After trying to extend and collapse the leg and get it to operate smoothly a couple of times the leg came out and the small black plastic collars that hold the legs from coming out fell out. There is only a small square of plastic that holds these collars in place and they came loose and jammed up the leg then pulled loose when I had to use some force to extend the leg.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fragile multiple failures on two separate Carbon IIs.

First one had a leg seize up and break internally on the first day of use. Vortex overnighted me a new one. The second one the “pitch ledges” broke off one by one. The metal inside is bubbly pot metal. This is the second Summit Carbon II going back to Vortex. Otherwise Light and easy to use.
